Former prime minister Najib Razak attends Friday prayers at a mosque in Kuala Lumpur. The affair centred on allegations that Malaysian officials took huge kickbacks in the 2002 purchase of Scorpene submarines from France when Najib was defence minister. Najib's immediate concern is allegations that he, his family, and cronies pillaged billions from 1MDB. But 1MDB pales in many ways to the Scorpene affair, which has sex, submarines, assassins on the run, and an unfortunate Mongolian model and translator. Allegations that Najib and Rosmah were involved in the killing -- carried out by two government bodyguards -- were steadfastly denied by Najib.
